The price is decent. Whether it is the best moment to buy depends on your patience.

The AirPods Max 2 dropped to $429 at Amazon and Best Buy, $120 under the $549 list price, in all five colors. They reached $399 at Prime Day in June, so this is not the record low. It is close to it, though.

A discount is always welcome, and I say that every time. If you want the lowest price, waiting may pay off, since they have been lower before. But $429 is a relatively good price, and the gap to the record is $30. Waiting for $30 is a choice, not an obligation.

The part where I compare price to function is harder here, and I will be honest about why: I do not use these. I have set aside almost every big-brand headphone and moved to studio headphones. At their price, studio models compete with headphones that cost five or even six times more. I cannot tell you what the Max 2 offers beyond that, because I have not tested them. What I can say is that at $429 you should be sure you need what they offer, and not just the name on them.

My verdict: a fair deal if you already live inside Apple’s world and want these now. If you are open to other options, look at studio headphones first. Check the current price before you buy, since deals like this change quickly. The sources are linked below.
