A $30 Rhinoshield Bumper Is Not Worth Saving $9 on a Phone That Costs Hundreds
Based on reporting from 9to5Mac

My verdict: skip the saving. Nine dollars is too small to risk an expensive phone on a case whose durability nobody has tested.
9to5Mac reviewed Rhinoshield’s minimalist bumper for the iPhone 18 Pro. It costs about $30 and is made from a single piece of hard recyclable plastic. Its best idea is supports that keep the camera plateau and lenses off whatever surface the phone rests on, which also stops the phone from wobbling on a table. The reviewer found that more protective than a typical bumper. The list of problems is longer: the buttons are mushy, the fit is somewhat loose and the edges bend outward, it has no attachment points for Apple’s straps, and it attracts pocket dust. The reviewer says it feels cheaper than Apple’s bumper, and that Apple’s $39 bumper costs about the same once you add shipping to the Rhinoshield price. Long-term durability of hard plastic with a loose fit has not been tested.
I have always used a case, and without one a phone now feels strange in my hand. Cases have saved my phone from several falls. A case is indispensable for me because I keep a phone for years. It is not that I cannot afford a new one. The phone I have does everything I need.
That is why the arithmetic does not work for me. Nine dollars is not a meaningful difference, and the reviewer notes that shipping can erase it. Against that stands a phone that costs several hundred dollars and a case whose weak point is exactly the unproven part.
