iPhone Duo Against the Pixel 11 Pro Fold: What $1,999 and $1,899 Get You

Apple’s first foldable opens for pre-order on Friday, October 16, at 5:00 a.m. Pacific, and ships from October 23. This is not a verdict. Nobody outside Apple has reviewed the iPhone Duo yet, so what follows is the product on paper, next to the foldable it will be compared with most: Google’s Pixel 11 Pro Fold, which is already on sale and already reviewed. Draw your own conclusions.

The prices

iPhone Duo: $1,999 (256GB), $2,199 (512GB), $2,599 (1TB), $3,199 (2TB). Colours: Star White and Night Sky.

Pixel 11 Pro Fold: $1,899 (256GB), $2,019 (512GB), $2,249 (1TB). That is $100 more than last year’s model.

At the base storage the gap is $100. At 1TB it is $350. Only the Duo offers 2TB.

Where the iPhone Duo looks stronger on paper

  • Thickness when open. 5.2mm, the thinnest iPhone Apple has made.
  • Charging. Apple says 50% in about 20 minutes with a 60W adapter. BGR’s rough timing for the Pixel was 50% in just under 40 minutes on its 30W charging. Both charge wirelessly at up to 25W with magnets.
  • Storage. A 2TB option, which Google does not sell.
  • The second rear camera. The Duo pairs a 48MP main camera with a 48MP ultra wide. The Pixel’s ultra wide is 10.5MP.
  • Satellite features. Emergency SOS, Messages and Find My via satellite, free for two years.

Where the Pixel 11 Pro Fold looks stronger

  • Bigger screens. 8 inches inside and 6.5 inches outside, against 7.6 and 5.4 on the Duo.
  • A dedicated zoom camera. The Pixel has a dedicated 10.8MP telephoto with 5x optical zoom. The Duo’s 2x “optical-quality” telephoto is a crop from the main sensor, not a separate camera.
  • Unlocking options. The Pixel has a side fingerprint sensor and face unlock. The Duo has Touch ID in the side button and no Face ID.
  • Weight and closed thickness. BGR lists the Pixel at 239g and 10.1mm folded. Apple lists the Duo at 254g and 11.3mm closed.
  • A written update promise. Google commits to seven years of OS and security updates. Apple does not publish a number.

What both share

Both are rated IP68 for water and dust. Both claim around 24 hours of typical use (Apple says up to 24 hours; Google says 24+).

What reviews already say about the Pixel, and what nobody can say yet about the Duo

Reviewers of the Pixel 11 Pro Fold measured roughly 5 to 6 hours of screen-on time per charge, enough for a day but not two, from a battery smaller than last year’s. They also point to a visible crease, an inner screen dimmer than the outer one, and a near-square inner display that letterboxes widescreen video. On the positive side, they praise the build and how normal it feels when closed. On the camera they disagree: BGR praises the 5x telephoto, while Droid Life calls it the weakest of the three.

For the Duo, battery life outside Apple’s own tests, the crease, the hinge and how the inner screen handles apps are all unknown until independent reviews arrive. Apple Pencil support is listed as “coming later this year”, not at launch.

Before Friday

Apple’s store already lets you save a configuration and set up payment ahead of the pre-order window. Compare both spec pages yourself, and check whether reviews of the Duo are out before you confirm an order.
