Deezer Will Let You Switch Off AI Music. I Want to See How It Decides What Counts.
Based on reporting from Engadget

My verdict: a welcome option, with one condition. Show me how the detection works.
Deezer says it will add a toggle that removes fully AI-generated music from what you hear, and that it will arrive before the end of 2026. According to Engadget, the company says its AI detection tool is among the first in the industry, that it has offered the tool to other platforms, and that the risk of a false positive is “very low”, though it admits the tool is not foolproof. Deezer also reports that about 90,000 fully AI-generated tracks are uploaded each day, and that the share of daily uploads has gone from about 18% a year ago to more than half. It says as many as 85% of streams of those tracks are fraudulent. Reports differ on how far the filter reaches: Deezer’s own announcement describes it in terms of search, so check what it covers when it launches.
Being able to turn it off is the right call, and I welcome it. Finding something real has become harder amid all the content that gets uploaded, and that is not limited to music, since social media has the same problem. A switch that lets the listener decide is better than a feed that decides for them.
My condition is the explanation. A “very low” false positive rate is a number from the company that sells the product, and Deezer has not said how the detector tells a human track from a generated one. I would like to understand that. If it holds up, it is a real contribution. I never accept a guarantee without evidence, and neither should you.
When the toggle arrives, test it on music you know is human and see what disappears. Then go back to Deezer’s announcement and read what it says about scope.
