GTA 6 Will Make the PS5 Pro Shortage Worse, and That Is Not the Reason to Buy One

Sony told distribution partners that PS5 Pro shortages will run into 2027, driven by supply constraints and demand, with reporting linking it to AI eating into advanced chip supply. The console launched at $699.99, and the next obvious pressure point is GTA 6.

I am not a fan of the series, so I am not the person who will pay over list to play it in January. I know those people exist, and I do not think they are foolish. Someone who streams, or who has waited a decade, is buying a release window rather than a console, and release windows are worth money to them. Buying the same game twice across two machines is a strange hobby from outside and perfectly rational from inside.

But that is a reason to buy a game early, not a reason to buy this console.

If the Pro is the better machine, it is better for every game you will own for the next six years, and that is the case to weigh. If it is not meaningfully better, no single release makes it so, and a game that runs the same on the standard console has not earned you a $500 premium on top of a $700 machine.

So the question to ask when the comparison videos land is narrow: does the Pro do something for the games you already play, today, that you would notice. Not whether one upcoming game looks sharper on it.

So, do I buy it? Buy the Pro if it is the better console on its own merits and you can get it at list. Do not buy it as a GTA 6 accessory, and do not pay a shortage premium for a difference you have not seen yet.
